what do you mean with 'connect' here ?
ODBC (programmatically or with a tool) ? JDBC ?
native ?
Or is it that DBM shows the newly created database instance
in its list ?

normally this indicates that the database is not in 'warm' state.
in DB Manager : select  the database instance you want to connect to
with SQL Studio and push the red traffic-light-like button.

this should not be necessary for SQL Studio,
it installs and registers its own ODBC drivers temporarily
when started. (as of V7.3 out there)
