Hi Patrick, raw devices are handled directly by the database without the os in the middle, thus much more faster. I don't know if it works with sapdb, but it should. We've got Adabas D 11 running under SuSE 7.1 with currently about 55 GByte of data in with raw devices without any problem. Just use the raw command to create the device files.
one remark more... If you are also using samba on the XFS filesystem you will get problems because the kernel module for XFS (we used) regularily causes some daemons to stop including samba, better use EXT3 for journaling.
