Well,

I woudn't blame it on SAPDB totally...

I don't have a Sun Box, but I do have two IBM SP2-Frames running
various SAP-Systems and other applications and databases.

One of those systems is a 4 CPU (450 MHz) WideNode with 4 GB
Memory serving as a SAP APO Central Instance and DB-Server
(AIX 4.3.3 64bit with 64bit SAPDB).
My developers and users where quite satisfied with overall system
performance - until recently I installed a testsystem on a
Dell PowerEdge 2250(2 PIII 1.4 GHz, 4GB Mem, running SuSE SLES)
and copied the productive DB (~ 15 GB) to that node.

The testsystem just 'feels' much faster on working with the APO-Gui and is
twice as fast than the AIX box comparing batch times.

I'm not finished with my tests yet, but some cheap PC-Hardware could
really outperform those expensive RISC-systems.

Regards,

Gerhard
