Hi,

a few days ago I posted about crashed occuring frequently in one of our
production systems. the log files always contain many lines like:

2002-10-04 11:31:53 18817 ERR 11332 MEMORY 533:'ven57c.c' malloc for 32768
bytes failed, Cannot allocate memory

and then finally:

2002-10-04 11:31:53 0 ERR 11330 COREHAND ABORTING due to signal 11

what I don't understand is that I'm quite sure the server has enough memory
(2GB) to deal with the database and cache settings (20000 pages data cache
and 100 maxusertasks). is it possible that some other parameters are set
incorrectly? can this lead to the symptoms described above.

we initially suspected a faulty RAM chip and exchanged the entire RAM in the
macheine but that didn't help.

I would be greatful for ANY hint as these crashes now occur every other day,
which leaves us in a pretty messy situation.

Thanks in advance,

Robert
