Tracked down the problem.
  The ODBC driver on the sapdb.org-->interfaces-->odbc site works incorrectly.(as of 
mon 7th oct.)
The file sapdb-odbc-7.3.00.18-win32.exe from the sap ftp site works. Can the links on 
the sapdb.org page be updated please? I had a similar problem with the jdbc driver.

with me it works fine.
Perhaps I should add that I have only access to machines upgraded to dao 2.5.
