Don't know if you're still having issues, but anyways...
I'm running Suse 8.0 and had the same problems, no matter what settings.
But... there's a shell script in the dependant program directory called...
create_demo_db.sh
... for some reason it seems to work. It fires up the DB initially
differently to that the installation manual describes along with other
docco found. There's also a drop_demo_db.sh script there to handle the
killing of the db instance. Copy the scripts and modify to your desire.
Makes things easier anyway.
Was a genuine pain the butt. Because for all intents and purposes the
install is flawless.
