I just began to use SAP DB last week and got the
same problem because the lack of "first steps".
AFAIK, XSERVER is the service which DB admin tools
connects.
_CTEMPSA have no idea.
You must create your own instance. Install the
DBMGUI (Database Manager), open it and select from main menu Instance -> Install. It starts the dabase wizard. Follow
each step. When I create my first instace I found two problems:
1. The data volumes should have at least 16 Mb
because system tables and temp space are create there. If you use too small data
volumes the wizard doesn't complain abaout and the step where system tables are
created fail.
2. Dont use reserved word for DBO or DBA users. I
use regulary FireBird (www.firebirdsql.org) and Interbase then I
want SYSDBA as the DBA user but it is a reserved word then the system table
create step fail also.
I still don't understand how works data volumes /
log volumes / backup. It seems that the log is cleared until backup. I haven't
chance to experiment to understand it but as far as I see, I think that SAP DB
is a good replacement for my favorite OS DB: FireBird.
Regards.
