I use SAP DB for more than 1 year and
think this is the best OS database.
It works very well as a database server (Linux)
for our help-desk application.
Connections to DB are made with ODBC driver (clients - MS Windows).
With a great help from Elke and other members of
SAP DB team I managed to make it work with
polish special characters (i.e using MAPCHAR for sorting),
even with Database parameter UNICODE set to NO (just
to keep the smallest size of DB as possible).
A few days ago I decided to make some tests with new (7.4beta)
version of SAP DB. Firstly, I installed a new driver (ODBC 7.4 - on
Windows),
and tried to connect to SAP DB 7.3.0.29 database. Connections are made
without
any problems but whenever I try to use some Polish diacritic chars (even as
a part of string) I get the message,
that the query could not be translated to Unicode. Why is that?
I mean, there were no problems using polish chars with ODBC 7.3. driver
and database which isn't UNICODE enabled...
Do I have to translate my database to Unicode one? Is it possible
to recover a 7.3 non-unicode database to a 7.4 unicode instance?
Could You give me some ideas?

Best regards,
Marcin Pytel
