you can afford it, use two raw devices on distinct drives.
There are mails in the archive about buffered vs. unbuffered raw devices. Use 
the unbuffered ones.

For both systems you may buy some ram and adjust the database to use this ram.
The higher the cache hit rate, the better you do.
