I have read the SapDB 7.2 and 7.3 reference manual which states on page 119 sizes for key columns for up to 254 bytes.

You are right, reading carefully, it does not state that longer keys do not exist and on the next page, the document says that all keys together must consume no more than 1024 bytes.

I must have been mislead by the fact that, 2 or 3 years ago, I've have failed to create keys longer than 254 bytes with SapDB.


BTW.
Can You clarify about performance penalties when joining with long characters rather than short integers?
