It's not emulation in the slow sense; it's a compatibility layer which allows FreeBSD 
to run Linux binaries (by resolving syscalls the Linux way).  It runs Linux binaries 
at the same speed Linux does (+ or - depending on the idiosyncrasies of the respective 
OSes).  It's actually very compatible, normally only having trouble with Linux 
applications that get very low-level.

I'll give it a go and let you know how it goes (for the record).
