Could any SAP engineer comment on wether this might be a bug in SAP DB?
We'd rather say: it's a workaround for a bug in the old thread libraries, which is not compatible with the new libraries.

Support for NPTL depends on whether there is the possibility to detect this at runtime, on how fast NPTL spreads through the distributions and whether SAP customers use it.

The same is true for NGPT.
I don't know much about the current state in the linux threading world. A quick google seems to hint that NPTL and NGPT are two mutually exclusive efforts to get rid of the old horrible linuxthreads implementation?

If that is the case, then the situation now is even worse than it was with linuxthreads? In any case, I'm just happy we have a workaround for the problem.
