I've been trying to install SAPDB from either the SuSE 8.1 distribution or the
.tgz file (version 7.4.03) from sapdb.org, and I am not able to create the
TST database. Running as user sapdb, group sapsys, and having used the
sapdbenv.sh script from the firststeps.tgz documentation, I get the following
result every time:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~> /opt/sapdb/depend/misc/create_demo_db.sh
12751 XSERVER XSERVER started, 'X32/LINUX 7.4.3 Build
010-000-035-462'
create database TST...
set parameters for TST...
start TST...
and the script hangs here. Looking at the running processes for user sapdb, I
get the following:
2329 pts/6 S 0:00 /bin/sh /opt/sapdb/depend/misc/create_demo_db.sh
2336 pts/6 S 0:00 /opt/sapdb/indep_prog/pgm/vserver start
2338 pts/6 S 0:00 xserver.prt logger
2360 pts/6 S 0:00 /bin/sh /opt/sapdb/depend/misc/create_demo_db.sh
2361 pts/6 S 0:00 dbmcli -d TST -u DBM,DBM db_start
2362 pts/6 S 0:00 /opt/sapdb/indep_prog/pgm/vserver start
2363 pts/6 D 0:00 /opt/sapdb/depend/pgm/dbmsrv -P
000000030000000900000
These outputs are from a fresh install, and create_demo_db was called only
once. Running dbmcli atfter this reveals:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~> /opt/sapdb/indep_prog/bin/dbmcli -d TST -u DBM,DBM db_state
OK
State
OFFLINE
The dbmsrv process seems to be immortal, and cannot be killed. I have to
reboot the machine and start again.
I hope one of you can help.
Thanks for any advice,
Mark Blanchard
