Hello all,
I have some problems updating to 7.4
I am currently running Suse81 and 7.3.0.
Like it is written in the document "Database upgrade from 7.3 to 7.4" I first
installed the database software itself:

On Page 11 there is written upgrading with an rpm package.
I logged in as "root"
* stopped all db instances
* stopped Vserver
(** made a copy of all known folders used by sapdb)
* executed rpm -Uhr sapdb*.rpm
this wouldn't run. (it says that if running in root arguments to --root (-r) must
begin with a /)
I took rpm -Uhv sapdb*.rpm instead
this gave me errors, which I cannot recall.

Ok, already sweating :-(, I tried to start the Vserver. It didn't work!

After several useless attemts of repairing the installation, I deinstalled the rpms
and copied the old folders over new ones,
then I deleted the rest of the 7.4 files and luckily got the db up and running again.

Where did I go wrong?

I looks like at one point of the migration path both databases have to run. Is this
possible?
Can I run them in a productive environment parallel? Or can I install them on one
machine and run one of each?
This would be great since I need this kind of environment!

But to migrate to 7.4: Is it enough to make a COLD BACKUP? In the migration
documentation there is an additional step written down:
* util_execute migrate (It doesn't run on my 7.3 only installation.)
It is also done before util_connect. Can this be?
But can I restore a COLD BACKUP of 7.3 in 7.4 without this step?

Some helpful ideas would be nice.

Regards,
Manfred
