Hi,

I was trying to do the rename from the SQL Studio "Alter Table" dialog.
This was the only change I made. Strangely enough, though I couldn't
change the column's name, I was able to change it's type.

I made a new column with the new name and did:

update table
set new=old

update table
set old = 0

This worked around the problem, but I feel a little uncomfortable with
problems like this existing, so I still hope someone can explain why this
happened and how to fix it.

Thank you,

It's funny, I had the exact same problem this weekend. You were trying
to execute the rname as part of a batch, didn't you?
