Hi all,
According to the documentation the minimum size of the database should be determined based on the "Max page number" reported by the backup command (plus 1/2 log devspace * number of devspaces)
There are two output lines of the backup prorgam that I'm curious about. The first one is "Pages transfered" and the second one is the "Max page number" mentioned above. It sounds logical that the minimum size of the devspaces should be determined based on the actual size of the transferred data. However in SAP DB it works differently. The actual problem is that sometimes the "Max page number" really greater than the "Page transferred". Therefore it's resulted in the situation than to hold 6 GB of data I have to create the database of about 18 GB. Sometimes it works better and "Max page number" is just a bit greater than "Pages transferred". Is there any way to ensure before backup that these two numbers will be close enough to avoid of allocation of enormous extra space while restoring the database. Is there any params that affect this? Does the heavy use of the temporary space before the backup causes this situation (the temporary space might be ~8-10 times bigg! ! er than RESERVER_REDO_SIZE in my situation).
I appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance.
