Hello Stefan,

The symptoms you describe are exactly the ones one
experiences when one connects with SQL Studio of 
version < 7.4.3.17 to a db instance of version >= 7.4.3.17 .

are you _really_ sure you got a 7.4.3.17 er SQL Studio ?
(e.g. do you have a large browser/proxy cache, etc. )
You can check this by right clicking on the setup
executable and looking at the properties->version->productversion .
