Hello Thomas,

it seems that there is already an installation registry, but the SAP DB software
installation does not match with the information stored in the installation registry.
As of SAP DB version 7.4 and 7.3.00 Build 32 all persistent informations needed for
the software installation are stored in the
installation registry. May be there was already a SAP DB of version 7.4 installed on
your system, but it was deleted together with all SAP DB registry entries. Then the
SAP DB software of version 7.3.00 Build 15 was installed. This version could be
installed without any problem because it did not
use the installation registry.

Usually you should remove SAP DB software of version 7.3.00 Build 33 or higher and
version 7.4 by using the tool 'sdbuninst'. If you are using 'sdbuninst', all related
files, registry keys and informations in the installation registry are deleted.

Because all SAP DB files in <drive>\sapdb\programs and <drive>\sapdb\<SID>\db and all
registry entries in HKLM\Software\SAP\SAP DBTech were deleted manually, the
installation information remains in the installation registry.

To delete the installation registry now remove all files named INSTREG and INSTREG*
form the directory <drive>\sapdb\data\config\install. Please do not delete or modify
any other file in this directory.

Please keep in mind that this is not the recommended way to maintain the software
installation. You should use the tool 'sdbuninst' in any case. Because you already got
7.3.00 Build 33 and the filesytem structure looks likes an SAP system, I think you can
access the OSS. There is a new note (599129)
available concerning software deinstallation using sdbuninst.

regards,

Hi,

could you send me the complete installation log file.
The name of the file is SAPDB*-<date>-<time>.log and it is located in the
directory '<indep_data>\wrk'.

hello,
i tried to do a sdbupd (from 7.3b15 to 7.3b33) in a w2k enviroment.
after selecting the instance an providing the user/pwd the installation
aborts with several error messages like:

.../symbol/xxx.dbg used by ...

x_server is stopped, i have no idea what i can do. symbol/.dbg-files
sounds like debugger symbol tables, in this case i would have no
problem loosing them. is there a way to skip the check for this files
or to force the upgrade?

thanks

Thomas Wiesel
