Please send the files dbm.knl, dbm.prt and dbm.utl to this list.

A sketch for such a howto would be going something like the following. Install the
database, like in the demodb-script, but only up to the point "... init config". Skip
the rest of the script. Do not start the database into mode ONLINE. Recover instead
the backups you have. Start with a complete data backup up, followed by any
incremental data backups and end with log backups.

Subject: How-to restore when re-installing from scratch?

I have spent many hours trying to understand the process to reinstall a
database instance and restore up to the last log backup. I am using a simple
demo database, with one data volume and one log volume, autolog=on. I
populated my DB, created a full data backup, populated it again and backed
up the log, which created a new autosave.002 (autosave.001 was created with
the create_demo script). Then I dropped the db instance to re-create it from
scratch. I have my datasave and my autosave.002 in safe place in order to
restore my DB.

I have not been able to succeed with this. I can restore the data backup,
but no luck restoring the log.

I wish someone from SAPDB could write & publish a small howto describing a
scenario of total restore from scratch, simulating a restore after a severe
disk crash, something that could work with the demo database instance
included with SAPDB (TEST).

I think that many people will benefit from this.

Regards,
Martin
