The german sentence is partly right. It has to be: The size of the log segment does not depend on the size of the individual log volumes and must not be greater than the half of the sum of all log volumes. This is also described in this way in the "ADM515 - Administration SAP DB 7.3" training documentation. You can set the value greater than the half size of the sum of all log volumes but it will only be handles with the half as a maximum, as you can see at the size of the log save files.
