I can tell you that in the case of SuSE 8.1 professional, you must run
"yast2 -i compat" before installing SAPDB. Try that on SLES8.

I have published an article about installing SAPDB on SuSE 8.1, a
step-by-step guide, it is in spanish, but maybe you can follow it by the
bash scripts:
