Hello Gary,

I asked HP and they told me, that Backint for Oracle is supported for SAP DB
indeed officially only with Data Protector 5.0 and 5.1. On the other hand,
they tested it with Omniback 4.1 and to qoute: "However it will work with
Omniback 4.1 also".

So if you need a supported solution, Data Protector 5.0 or 5.1 is the only
way to go. Otherwise 4.1 should be sufficient.

Thanks for your help Tilo,

I have built the pipe and the stage file, but am failing on the acess to
Omniback. The Omniback Admin is telling me that this may not work with our
current version of Omniback ( 4.1 ). He states that we need to upgrade to
the latest Omniback version( 5.0 ). Do you know if this is true?

Hello Gary,

>I want to backup SAPDB using Omniback. I thought you had to use Backint for
>SAPDB and Backint for Oracle.

That is correct.

>The documentation is very confusing.

Therefore it was improved in the newest version. You can find that under
http://www.sapdb.org/7.4/htmhelp/43/e0f23ab6b4317de10000000a11402f/frameset.
htm .

>1. I am using DBMGUI to test the backup linkage. To use
>Omniback, I thought the name had to start with BACK.

That is correct too, but if you would like to create a backup into a file
not into Omniback, a name starting with BACK must not be used.

>2. When using DBMGUI the BSI_ENV variable is invoked that
>calls the bsi.env file

The DBMServer sees the medium name starting with BACK and opens the bsi.env
file.

Please have a look into the new documentation under

I don't understand this part of your question. Please have a look into
http://www.sapdb.org/7.4/htmhelp/83/f718a89e867446a29f5d822c409efa/frameset.
htm for an overview, of how to install Backint for Oracle with SAP DB.

This file must be described by the supplier of Backint for Oracle. As far as
I know no such file is used with Omniback.

> b. What needs to be in the parameter file

The format of the parameter file of Backint for SAP DB is described under
http://www.sapdb.org/7.4/htmhelp/91/24b97d483411d5992500508b6b8b11/frameset.

Please read the documentation mentioned above.

>I would appreciate it. i.e., what the dbmgui fields should contain,

You have to create a backup medium, whose name starts with BACK, whose type
is PIPE und whose location is something like \\.\pipe\<name> on Windows or
something like /tmp/<name> on UNIX.

>what exactly needs to be in the bsi.env file and what to name the other

Just configure the names as they fit you and your situation.
