I am wondering just what it takes to host one or more Satchmo stores.

Here's some rules of thumb that I am using. These are the guesses of
an inexperienced developer (me) , so I'm hoping for corrections or
amplifications.

A typical Satchmo store, for the purposes of these rules, is a single-
location brick-and-mortar store or a home business with maybe 100-1000
products.

1- Using a shared hosting account is iffy. Performance may vary wildly
depending on the host's policies and the other sharers.Perhaps
acceptable for a personal store but not for one sold to others.

2- On the VPS, the most serious requirement is likely to be the amount
of dedicated ram. A store should have about 160 KB, so 256Kb is
sufficient for a store, and 128k may be ok for small stores and low
traffic.

3- Multiple stores using the 'multi-store' module requires relatively
little extra memory. Assume up to 6 stores with 256k ram, and 16 with
512k

4- Multiple individual stores should have about 60k ram per
additional store, so a 256k VPS could host 2 stores, and a 512k VPS
could host about 7 stores.

Am I wildly off-base here? Does someone have a better approach to
figuring the hosting resources required?

Karl
