Still having the problem.. but I have checked the postgresql log file.. I see the error as being:
ERROR: insert or update on table "product_productvariation_options" violates foreign key constraint "product_productvariation_opti$ DETAIL: Key (productvariation_id)=(20) is not present in table "product_productvariation". STATEMENT: COMMIT Hope gives more insight on what is going on here...
