django-localeurl works very well for this. We've implemented it for http://www.clairdelune.ca (a Satchmo store). Only problem is that there's no support for designing multilingual URLs.. only things like /en, /fr, /es etc.
We can provide advice on getting localeurl working if you run into problems.
