I've committed a pretty big new (optional) feature on trunk. If you go to your settings page, there is a new option "Early AUTH", which will cause your credit card processor to attempt a $.01 AUTH and then an immediate release on the credit card entry page. This allows customers to get immediate feedback about bad credit cards on the page where they can fix it. Currently, the only processor that supports this setting is authorize.net. Any other processor will ignore the setting.
To enable it to for other modules, we/you just need to add the ability to authorize and to release authorizations. The system will automatically discover the capability once it is added to your favorite module, and begin applying the Early AUTH configuration setting.
