I think Satchmo would work fine for this. You're probably going to need to build some views/models to allow people to interact and create their products for upload. Once you associate their upload with a product, then the rest of Satchmo should work fine.
I am not familiar with a payment backend that you mention so I imagine that will be the trickiest part - how do you transfer to money to the appropriate person. Satchmo can certainly accept payment through whatever gateway you need but you'll need to write some custom code to send that payment on to the correct author. Anyway, it's an interesting use of Satchmo and I'm sure folks would be interested in learning how you do it.
