A "LINKED" payment record is a placeholder for a "pending" payment. Pending payments are linked to Auths.
I've cleaned up the object model for this a bit in Bursar, but it is basically the same thing in Satchmo. They are associated to AUTHs via the OrderPendingPayment model. In a nutshell, you are seeing payments which haven't been captured yet.
