I actually think it'd be just as easy to style satchmo as it is to style wordpress, (though I can't really speak to the latter).
We did livestrongfitness.com rather painlessly. Id think you could contract a front end guy to just do some CSS work for you...perhaps tweak some templates... Also, i thought there was some plugin out therre that let you picks layouts....but that may not be exactly what you are looking for.
