I would recommend that you find a contract programmer/admin that has done a few web-shops that you deem acceptable or better than acceptable. Then go with the platform that programmer uses after evaluating if that chosen platform comes close to meeting your needs and current workflow.
Many business IT mistakes are from choosing a technology and forcing everything to work with it, instead of looking at requirements, process, workflow, and people. I would like to believe that Satchmo and the Django framework would be perfect for you, but I don't have enough information and it probably isn't information you want published in Google groups.
