Yes you can change any of the files just make sure you restart the server so it loads your changes. But before you do! Can you extend the views instead? Listen for their signal and make changes? Overwrite the views by registering your views to the same url? It's always better not to change the core if you can but there are times when it's the only option. I just wanted to make sure you're aware of it.
