They are very cool -- but I find the keyboard extremely difficult to type on with my full-sized hands. As a practical tool, I don't find mine to be useful as-is because of the keyboard limitations. I *do* love it for: * _fantastic_ wifi reception. * great formfactor * interesting UI / software * the mesh is an awesome concept (and probably actually is really cool if you take the time to hook into one of the local jabber servers to use it world-wide) * the screen is truly amazing, and the tablet mode is a pretty decent way to read books / papers. (Software support for reading pdfs is, IMO, still lacking though. It's not as easy as it should be to get pdf text sized properly.) It's a great durable, portable laptop with some cool software and state-of-the-art hardware, and it's sized perfectly for a child. Having said all that, I don't use mine at all because it's a shoddy platform for coding, and I find it very hard to type on. It works well for email, and reading papers (and playing wesnoth :) but there are very few times when that's all I need out of a laptop. If you'd like to borrow mine for a bit, you're certainly welcome to, just ping me off-list. (I would like to sell it at some point too.) --Rogan > > --- Original Message --- > From:"Anthony c" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Sent:Thu 10-2-08 7:44 pm > To:[email protected] > Subj:[saturdayhouse] Re: OLPC - SEAXO user group > > Let's Do It! > > For people to get enough warning, it'd be best to plan it a few weeks down > the road.
