Planned Release:
Summary: Cannot authenticate to Savannah using Safari on OS X
Original Submission: Resubmitting as requested at

---
Perhaps you should close bug submissions at Savannah.gnu.org and redirect users to
Gna!?
---
Original Submission: I can no longer authenticate to Savannah.(non)GNU.org with
Safari 1.2.1 on OS X 10.3.3 (i.e., the most up-to-date version of browser and OS as of
13 May 2004).
I enter my username and password and, regardless of which buttons are pressed on the
login page (i.e., stay in SSL, remember me, and co-login to the sister site), it looks
like I am authenticated, a redirect to /my is attempted, then it pops me back to the
login page.
Mozilla 1.6 on the same machine authenticates fine, thus this is a problem particular
to Safari.

I meant in the final sentence "...I can *now* authenticate...". Sorry for the typo.

I am redirected properly to /my then I am instantly redirected to
/account/login.php?return_to=%2Fmy%2F which returns me to the login screen.
I see no cookies at all referring to .gnu.org. I see one cookie for .nognu.org. Note
the initial dot in this name. I see several for savannah.gnu.org and
savannah.nongnu.org. They are named session_hash, SV_THEME (both show on both
domains), and SV_THEME_ROTATE_NUMERIC and SV_THEME_ROTATE (nongnu.org only).
I tried removing the lone .nongnu.org cookie and authenticating, but that resulted in
no new behavior. I then removed all cookies relating to these domains. After
removing all cookies I was able to authenticate again and get to /my correctly. After
authenticating to both gnu.org and nongnu.org simultaneously I see only a single
cookie now for ".gnu.org" (a session_hash).
Thus, I am now able to authenticate and use the existing savannah sites properly with
Safari and the problem was definitely cookie-related.
I tried logging out and reauthenticating using a variety of security settings enabled
to using the SafariEnhancer, but none of those tweaks had any effect. Meaning, once I
got rid of old (?) cookies I can no authenticate in any way I want (both domains, stay
in SSL, etc.) using Safari.

What we need to determine now is whether this is a bug in Savane or in Safari.
As you are redirected to /my, the authentication worked right. Can you check what
cookies do you have for the domain?
