did this problem occur just recently? In other words: have you ever been able
to view the site with correct Japanese characters in the past?
The translation into Japanese was enabled just a few weeks ago, I guess that
you didn't see any Japanese content before then. Is this right?
As you already suspected, the problem is that Apache sends out a header about
"ISO-8859-1" encoding, while the Japanese translation is in EUC-JP. This is a
known issue and will be fixed with the next release of Savane, which is due in
a few weeks.
In the meantime: does manually setting the page's encoding in your browser to
EUC-JP resolve the strange characters?
