Hi,

First, I would like to ask to Tim Perdue whether he is in favor of such a merge: I think you were thinking about merging with the Savannah[Savane] codebase, while the FSF asked to help them use GForge the Savannah[. gnu.org] website. But actually you never told us your thoughs about merging with the Savane software as it is now.

Let alone the Savane team decision, are you for or against the merging proposition?

(Maybe this could be cross-posted to GForge's mailing-list?)

Merging can only be done if both parties are willing to do it,
so no need to discuss if the GForge people are actually against merging...

Sylvain, I think it's a fine idea for people on Savannah or Savane or whatever it's called to join GForge and get everyone towing a common line for everyone's benefit.

My ultimate goal with GForge is to have it used everywhere - not just FSF or a small group of die-hard free software advocates, but everywhere that is doing software development.

GF Reporting Module will be GPL'd as soon as possible, although I have no control over that schedule. It would have been released last November, but the two major corporations that promised to donate the money never did and so I never released it.

As for assigning copyrights to FSF, anyone is welcome to do that, however GForge is not an FSF project. I would be quite interested in, and open to creating a GForge Foundation and assigning the gforge.org domain and all code to that foundation, but as I said, I will not do it if I am the only one funding it.

I *do* have concerns about losing "control" of my project and turning it over to a new organization, but those concerns could be addressed fairly and I believe having GForge be independent would be good for the long-term success of the project.

Tim
