Follow-up Comment #1, sr #2622 (project savane):
Mails sent by the _web frontend_ are sent using the PHP interface, so you can
configure PHP to send mails using SMTP or something.
However we strongly recommand to install a minimal sendmail-like MTA (mail
transport agent) such as ssmtp. In general distros provide an easy way to
configure the MTA to relay all local mails to your existing mail server on
your network, you could also try that.
