        It's enough to test the permission bits of /cvsroot/$val. If 2775
then it's public. If 2770 then it's private. This is the file system 
idea of the private bit.

What about "private" projects?

As far as I remember there were some projects where bkuhn indicated
that they should not be announced *anywhere*.

I am not sure but I think some of those projects are:

  compliance
  fsfeprivate
  licensing-qa

maybe others.
