Currently we're using mirmon (http://download.savannah.gnu.org/mirmon/) to check the health of the mirror, based on a timestamp file (00_TIME.txt). When the mirror is too old (> 28h), it's moved out of the pool. This doesn't solve the 24h delay, but this sound similar to your suggestion :) -- Sylvain
