I'm not sure the rational for changing it, but I added Ineiev to CC. Maybe he will be open to reverting that change. MHonArc (I think that is what Savannah uses, maybe I am wrong) has some options to make mailto options harder for spammers to harvest [2], substitute addresses in message bodies [3], and some other anti-spam stuff [4]. Maybe those can be considered.
