Not really how it works.

I agree that the usual way of posting to the mailing list is through
gnu.org servers. But if they were down, don't you think it would be
possible to continue conversations on the newsgroup independently of the
mailing list? Of course everybody would need to create an account on
gmane.io or gwene.com, and get write accesss to the group (after
providing a valid email address as identification.)

In other words, would the newsgroup be frozen if gnu.org servers were
unreachable?
