Follow-up Comment #1, sr #111342 (group administration): I had the same problem. I think it was due to the DDoS attacks that harass GNU resources more or less constantly.
I resorted to a shell one-liner to retry every ten minutes and after about an
hour it succeeded.
while ! git push; do sleep 600; done
