Follow-up Comment #1:

Thank you for the report. Unfortunately even with 9 mirror systems the
botnets still overwhelm us sometimes. What you are seeing is that there are
nine separate systems answering to that URL hostname address. Probably one of
them was overwhelmed and timed out. Another one was able to service your
request. By changing the hostname it forced a different DNS lookup and a
different system was selected.

Regardless of the gnu.org versus nongnu.org at this time both domain names are
serviced by the same server systems. It could have easily been a switch from
names in the other direction. It was only that it was a different name that
forced a new DNS lookup and that randomly selected a different server.

If you perform a DNS lookup of the names you will see the pool of addresses
returned. Those are all independent servers scattered across donated systems
all over the Internet.

We continue to fight the AI scraper botnets that are abusing and breaking
everything. Michael FSF sysadmin has blogged about this and written about it
in the FSF Bulletin if you are interested in reading more. We continue to
battle them. That's all I can say about this.

Sorry this won't be a satisfying answer. Nothing is actually broken as such.
It's just that NINE SYSTEMS still is not enough to handle the load placed upon
them by the AI scraping botnets. And so we are continuing to fight against
them. I appreciate the feedback about how this works for you and everyone
just the same.
