Hi Vincent,

I appreciate sexy stuff and if possible I don't want to sacrifice it,
but I put usability/information before sexiness. There is some essential
information that should be visible at first glance, and although it
should all come in a friendly design, the design should not make things
less visible.

I had an useful conversation with Olivier who complained about two bad
kinds open-source projects' sites. The first kind is the one where the
user only has a trac as a source of information, without a good
frontpage and documentation, in fact it's a website for devs only. The
second kind is when the website is a vacuous marketing vehicle: it's
very sexy, nicely designed, but one cannot find any useful information
there. I think Olivier made a very nice list of what people should find
on our page, and that's what I'd like to see as our ABC.

1. Newcomers needs to understand basically what liquidsoap is: the basic
description on the front page might convince some people to start using
liq, but a link to the introduction of the liq doc is useful for users
who have very clear needs in mind and want to peek at a more detailed
overview.

2. Once they have decided to try liq, people want to know how to install
it: we tell them it's OSS, only for Unices, very easy on Debian, Gentoo,
etc. It's not necessarily "create the radio of your dreams" yet.

3. They need a pointer to the tutorial so they can really get started.
The pointer to the real doc will be used later, and is in the menu, not
on the welcoming arrow.

Notice that there is no pointer to our frightening full documentation.
And all pages are purple and attractive. I'm sure this should keep the
learning-curve doubts away :)

Cheers,

David
