 Liquidsoap can play .mp3 without trouble but .m4a files from iTunes are
 not recognized.
 Isn't .m4a the same format as .aac, but with the meta-data header?
 (se http://www.analogduck.com/main/m4a )

 It would be great to read the id3 meta tags off course.
