#377: type_of_kind used abusively?

 In many places of the code I used Frame.type_of_kind, probably thinking
 that it converted Variable into 0, while it uses the default channel
 numbers in that case. There seems to be some confusion with a different
 function used in Lang when building a kind from a kind type. In the
 latter, metavariables have to be instantiated by default values. In the
 former case, it is less clear and might result in unwanted behaviors. This
 should be reviewed.
