You're right, gcc 3.x does let you get away with it, but I was using gcc 2.95.4 on linux/sparc. 2.95.x is still pretty widespread, though, so it is best to follow ANSI C. Yes, I am looking forward to using savonet. I am interested in ogg vorbis streaming as well as programming in ocaml (I am experienced in Standard ML), so savonet sounds like a great project!
