I just fixed it (r6606). I "recently" added some more sanity checks, and as a consequence had to tighten some operators. Notably I had fixed sequence() to behave better when merging.
I'm sorry I didn't address the ticket before: I had looked quickly at the report but I thought it was about sequence which I had fixed already, so I assumed the issue was complex (and the attached script was far from minimal, really any merging append fails).
