You should either run ntpdate in a cron, or run a ntp daemon that will avoid your clock from drifting, this is a general matter not only related to liquidsoap (think proxies, mail systems, or basically anything that interacts using timestamps at a point so in the end, almost anything that communicates over internet ;)). And as Romain pointed out, it certainly explains those timeouts you experienced..
