Apologies, not an issue with Liquidsoap. Seems the 9.04 Ubuntu release 
is bundled with an ALSA release that is (mildly) unstable. After 
upgrading to ALSA 1.0.20 all is well. Getting minor buffer 
over/underruns, but am still tinkering with framesize to try and avoid this.
