I have said all that had to be said about the way liquidsoap works.
It's a very delicate design, and I won't change its core structure
radically to fit your expectations, sorry. I hope that the application
we built can provide a good basis for your application, I'm not trying
to build another application.

Ok, this is a reasonable, and simple way to proceed. Then, your AT job
should skip before pushing the new request. This will work nicely.
(Just in case you try transitions at some point, you can even have
transitions after the skipped file, if the crossing is in conservative
mode.)
